Pressing Matters: July 19, 2013, Edition

Art everywhere! It’s a cover spree!

Pressing Matters: Week of July 15-19, 2013

Acquisitions

  1. Waiting to hear back from the author about the contract for that YA epic fantasy. Fingers crossed!
  2. Taking good looks at another few manuscripts, and also looking at an innovative, magical short story collection that we should be able to announce soon….

Editing

  1. Sarah is in full-on Commanatrix Mode with Mixed Feelings. I think I need to buy her some new red pens….
  2. Edits progress apace on Grave.

Production

  1. II Crimsonstreak is all dressed up, and dashing towards its October release! What do you think of the cover?
  2. City of Devils has also had its cover reveal! What do you think? Pulpy enough for ya?
  3. Next up on the cover list…Infinity Key. Stay tuned!

Reviews, Promotions, and Buzz

  1. Justin Robinson does it up on the Fanboy Scoop podcast this week. Complete with skit for your entertainment!
  2. Blue Diamond Delivery is getting all sorts of attention out in the wild! There’s a huge blog tour going on – keep up with the event page for links and updates!
  3. Among those neat features is this eBook giveaway, where you get to ask Anne a question about the book!

Sundries

  1. Help out a graduate student who’s looking into small press – how it works, how people find books, and all sorts of other interesting things. The survey about your “book habits online” only takes a few minutes!
  2. More and more people are cottoning on to the idea that DRM doesn’t really stop pirates, and that it just frustrates legitimate consumers – and isn’t really fair to them, either. Image is the latest to jump on the bandwagon, and Ars Technica has a good essay on why DRM-free is your friend.
  3. M Fenn (“So the Taino Call It, Substitution Cipher) is working on a novel…and kinda included a character she loves but didn’t tell his story. Getting caught up in your own worldbuilding is tough!
  4. A LEGO bookstore! Powell’s, no less! Neat!
  5. Type in colour! Perfect for the synaesthete in your life.
  6. This manga adaptation of a Japanese novella looks gorgeous.
  7. Here. Have some capybaras. Why? Because capybaras.
  8. Also, welcome to the Goat Rodeo. Strictly goats, please.
  9. Yes, Mastermind Kate is stressed out from the move and launches and everything else and coping by looking at pictures of fuzzy critters. We all have our coping mechanisms. Don’t judge.
