Pressing Matters: October 12 Edition

It’s been a fairly busy week, at least in terms of getting various things set up and administrivia managed. Nothing too exciting other than some computer-related chaos. But we’ll tell you all about it anyway!

Eerily enough, we have almost this many manila folders around.

Pressing Matters: Week of October 8-12, 2012

Editing

  1. Completed first-round edits on the new manuscript from Green Light Delivery author Anne E. Johnson, only to discover that the increasing lag in OpenOffice while working should’ve been a hint that something was wrong. Very wrong. Comments are completely garbled and almost unreadable. Redoing the edits. Yaaaaaay.
  2. Working on another round of revisions for Dragonbait by David McLain – this time with Moar Jokes!
  3. Received a batch of revisions on The Daughter Star, by Extrahumans author Susan Jane Bigelow. Getting into this once the comment-tracking issues are solved.
  4. Still going through rewrites on Gayleen Froese’s The Dominion; again, having comment-tracking issues.
  5. Edited the bonus tie-in story for the pre-order of Mr Blank by Justin Robinson. Man, I love Mina.
  6. Starting edits on bonus stories for Debris Dreams by David Colby. Pre-orders soon!

Production

  1. Set up the final interior print files and cover files for Mr Blank and ordered the first batch of paperbacks. Can’t wait!
  2. Ordered early print galleys of The Other Half of the Sky anthology.
  3. Going through the ePub of Debris Dreams for erroneous italicization. That should be the name of a band.
  4. Cursing whoever decided that eReaders should all have different default fonts and text spacing, because it makes getting graceful degradation and good display across platforms a minor nightmare.
  5. Substitution Cipher is still being proofread by Editrix Sarah and a small cadre of cats. Many comma complaints.

Promotions

  1. We launched on NetGalley this week! Now it’s even more convenient to get early review copies of C&G books, which is awesome.
  2. Still booking out a blog tour for the release of Mr Blank, too. We’ve got several stops already – which we’ll let you know about soon – but we’re looking for more. Are you interested in hosting a stop? Know a blogger who might be? Let us know!
  3. We’ve set up the pre-order for Debris Dreams, complete with some fantastic bonuses…we’ll let you know as soon as it launches!

Sundries

  1. Getting behind on the slush pile. This weekend involves two eight-hour car trips, and the Kindle will be reading slush aloud for most of this, I expect. If you see someone making really funny faces while driving through Pennsylvania in a white hatchback…well, you know.
  2. Contemplating new computer setups for editing, proofing, layout, and the like. There’s just no solution that does everything we need and want, and it’s getting frustrating – and even having a desk-based solution and second travelling setup isn’t looking possible. Why does no one make good editing software for a tablet, for instance?
