Goodies

Taking a bit of a break before the next Behind the Curtain post to ask…what sort of goodies would you dig for a book release?

I’m thinking of freebies, downloadables that you could snag, along with things you could buy for a buck or two. Wallpapers, obviously, but perhaps a downloadable sheet of bookmarks or a poster of the book cover or perhaps a button/badge with an image related to the book? Something else I’ve not even thought of? Whatcha got? Whatcha want?

Another writer friend of mine is providing free downloads of audio chapters of some of her books. Short stories, too. She’s found actors and musicians (mostly online, although some were local) who were willing to do the work either for cheap of for free. They’ve come out pretty well.

That’s a great idea! I’ve been trying to figure out how to do audio content – I’d love to have audiobooks available, especially for the visually impaired – but they’re a LOT of work to do right. A bonus short story or a single chapter might be doable, though!

And I’m late again, but Audio Content sounds awesome and theoretically doable, depending on quality. Sample chapters, author interviews, Music Inspired By The Book… it has quite a bit of potential.

Full audiobooks, on the other hand… yikes. Particularly in the world of speculative fiction, where, on top of everything else, you often need the guide to how “G!prt’kl” pronounces her name, vs the humans trying to approximate it… yeah. Lots and lots of effort.

Interestingly, I just started listening to an audiobook of Feet of Clay in which the narrator does a TERRIBLE job of doing Angua’s voice, but an amazing job of pronouncing Dwarfish. Go figure.
