Pressing Matters: Week of Feb. 11-15, 2013

Acquisitions

  1. We’re incredibly excited to announce that we’ll be publishing the second book in Chrysoula Tzavelas’s dynamic Senyaza Series, the followup to Matchbox Girls. Infinity Key promises to be more of a good thing: a smart, fierce heroine; fascinating worldbuilding; and more trouble than you dreamed was coming…

Editing

  1. Blue Diamond Delivery revisions are out with Editrix Sarah. Hopefully she will learn from Mastermind Kate’s mistakes and not attempt to drink anything while reading. It ends with a very wet monitor and/or stack of pages.

Production

  1. We have a cover for The Daughter Star! Reveal information coming soon…
  2. So many covers, so little time…I think we’re up to 75 variants for Unannounced Project thus far.
  3. Cover work has started on Grave.
  4. Best cover art question of the week: “Does he at any point put the diamond in his mouth?”
  5. Digital galleys of The Daughter Star are off; print goes next!

Reviews, Promotions, and Buzz

  1. In Southern California? Get over to the Redondo Beach Mysterious Galaxy Books tomorrow, Feb. 16, to meet Mr Blank author Justin Robinson at their local authors meet-and-greet!
  2. The Mr Blank Fnord Contest is almost over…you only have another week or so to find all the fnords in the special edition (any eBook that’s been sold between release in October and now) and let us know where they are. All correct responses are entered to win a Kobo Mini eReader loaded with every Candlemark & Gleam title! Rules and instructions are at the beginning of every digital edition. Grab a copy and start fnord-hunting!
  3. To celebrate Valentine’s Day, Women and Words asked authors like Stevie Carroll (A Series of Ordinary Adventures) which three of their characters they’d date. Hard question!
  4. And True Colorz, a great new blog devoted to LGBTQ YA lit, recently did a Q&A with Debris Dreams author David Colby!

Sundries

  1. New shelving in the C&G lair goes up this weekend! WOOT!
  2. Mastermind Kate got her hands on a chainsaw again
  3. David Colby recently introduced us to Written? Kitten! Writers, you need this in your lives.
  4. Some good thoughts coming out of the Tools of Change conference and Author (r)Evolution day this week, including a bunch of views on what authors and publishers can and should do to keep up and keep connected in the digital era.
