Pressing Matters: Week of December 3-7, 2012

Editing

  1. Edits on the sequel to Debris Dreams by David Colby have been returned! Well, the first round, that is. It was quite the rewrite request…but David is pretty enthusiastic about our commentary and has already started doing character dossiers and expanding his plans for the book. How exciting!
  2. We’re finishing up first-round edits and requests on Grave by Joan Frances Turner. Can’t wait to start working with her on polishing the book and concluding her trilogy!

Production

  1. Technical specifications for cover art are evil. Well, they’re evil when they require you to have the artist figure out how to massively decrease the saturation on the art, yet still make it pop. There will be many phone calls with the printer this week, I think.
  2. We’ve revised  the eBook editions of Debris Dreams to account for some unfortunate display errors in the pinyin text that have come up. If you’ve already purchased the book, please contact us for an updated copy if you’ve had display problems!

Reviews, Promotions, and Buzz

  1. Stevie Carroll, author of A Series of Ordinary Adventures, will be participating in this year’s Women & Words Hootenanny (isn’t that a great word?!) on Day Six. Check out the whole massive list of participating authors and get more information!
  2. Extrahumans author Susan Jane Bigelow has a great interview on The Link, dealing with writing, creativity, conformity, gender, and much more. I don’t know about you, but I want to know more about Mona now!
  3. Susan is also featured in Smugglivus, the fantastic winter event run by the even more fantastic Book Smugglers. It’s a whirlwind of cool author features that you should check out!
  4. Erekos author AM Tuomala is participating in Lexember, and is working on the linguistic background of the world inhabited by the Erekoi, Weigenlanders, and more. This is some seriously fascinating worldbuilding that you should check out!
  5. Author M Fenn is continuing her discussion of the real history behind her alt-history spy story, “So the Taino Call It,” in the upcoming Substitution Cipher anthology. You need to check this out!
  6. Another Substitution Cipher author, C.D. Covington, is also posting about the real basis behind an alt-history world. See what inspired “Something There Is”.
  7. Anne E. Johnson is offering a chance to win a SIGNED copy of her hilarious sci-fi noir, Green Light Delivery. Check it out!

Sundries

  1. Leonard Richardson, the author of Constellation Games, has written a series of companion stories to the novel – and has made them available bundled with the novel! Now, with every purchase of the novel directly from Candlemark & Gleam, you’ll get a special Bonus Bundle including three companion stories and an alien phrasebook, Pey Shkoy Benefits Humans!
  2. Woahgeez. The Submissions inbox really did explode just after NaNoWriMo. BATTEN DOWN THE HATCHES, PEOPLE.

  1. Stevie Carroll

Thanks for plugging the Hootenany, but you omitted to mention that Natania Barron is giving away a copy of Pilgrim of the Sky on Day 9 too.

  2. Candlemark & Gleam

I somehow skimmed right over her name on there! I was looking down the list at all the interesting authors, and somehow missed her. Thanks for catching me!
